About Ernest Giralt-Lledó

BEHIND THE MUSIC

My compositions are my way to communicate my emotions. My approach to musical writing is very naive and, at the same time, rather eclectic.

My musical vision is probably highly influenced by my activities as a professional scientist.

Listen to my work or, even better, play my music. I’d love to hear your response.

CHEMICAL ELEMENTS 2018: A MUSICAL MOSAIC

This 'Musical Mosaic' is an orchestral composition  formed by 118 very short musical fragments. Each one of these fragments is inspired by one of the 118 chemical elements that made all the substances of our planet. The periodicity of the chemical properties of these 118 elements is directly reflected in the musical periodicity of the score. This piece evokes also the aesthetics of 'trencadís', the kind of mosaics used by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí.

ETINCELLES

These are very very short compositions for either one or up to five instruments. They are like 'musical Spanish tapas'.
Their name 'etincelles' in French - like 'sparks' in English - want to reflect the humbleness and simplicity of these pieces.
The same etincelle can be presented with different flavours, i.e. the same music can be played with different instrument ensembles.

EARLY WORKS

I started writing music in the 70's, together with my very good friend the late Xavier Rosselló.
At that time computers were amazing newcomers and we were exploring how they could be used to assist and/or to simulate the process of musical composition.
